Prerequisite: None

In this class, students will explore the medium of sculpture in both is traditional and contemporary forms. Sculpture as a medium is very well suited toward bringing up fundamental questions about “what art is”. Through a variety of projects students will engage in the concepts of space, volume, and mass. They will also explore the expressive potential of everyday materials, and begin to understand and work with non-traditional approaches, such as installation, environmental sculpture, and use of found objects. Some class time will be dedicated to critique as well as looking at and discussing the work of historical and present-day sculptors. Materials will include but are not limited to: wire, clay, plaster, wood, paper, cardboard, and mixed media.
