Animation

Other Considerations

Procreate has only 3 possible "layers", only 1 of which can actually be animated. That animated layer can have groups, but animating with groups in Procreate is slow and inefficient.

While the timing as a whole can be adjusted, slowing down a section of the animation can only be done 1 frame at a time by extending the hold. Similarly, repeating part of the animation can only be done by duplicating and moving frames 1 at a time. Again, this can be incredibly slow and inefficient.

Using Procreate in combination with other animation apps can allow you the benefit of using Procreate's drawing tools, while being able to make more complex animations.

For the best control of timing, adding tweening/warping, audio, and special effects, use Procreate drawings in Tahoma2D. Export as a PSD if you've used groups and want to keep access to them, or as PNG files for flattened images.

Procreate animations can also be imported directly into Procreate Dreams for further timing adjustments, adding tweening/warping, audio, or filters. Procreate Dreams has fewer and less efficient timing options compared to T2D, but they are improved over the original Procreate.
